About Mount Buffalo & the Gorge
The Gorge Day Visitor Area sits at the heart of Mount Buffalo National Park, where alpine terrain meets lush forest valleys. This spectacular region offers an extensive network of walking tracks ranging from easy riverside strolls to challenging mountain hikes, alongside pristine camping and dramatic natural landmarks like The Horn.
Walks & Trails
The visitor area is surrounded by over a dozen quality walks. Easy options include the Gorge Heritage Walk, View Point Nature Walk, and Lakeside Walk, all within 2km. For more adventure, tackle the Underground River Track, Monolith Walk, or the moderate Eurobin Falls. Further afield, the Ballroom Track, Upper Rollasons Falls Track, and Rollasons Falls Track reward with waterfalls and alpine views. The Chalwell Galleries Walking Track showcases ancient rock formations.
Camping
Lake Catani Campground is just 2km away within the national park, offering convenient access to trails and the lake. For caravan and motorhome facilities, Riverview Caravan Park, Mount Buffalo Caravan Park, and Discovery Parks – Mount Buffalo are all within 10km. The nearby towns of Porepunkah and Bright offer additional options including Porepunkah Pines Holiday Park, Porepunkah Mill Holiday Park, and Bright Riverside Holiday Park.

The Horn is the park's most iconic summit, offering panoramic views across the high country. The South Buffalo View Point provides another excellent vantage over the Ovens Valley. For extended exploration, Mount Feathertop, Mount Hotham, and Mount Loch are accessible day trips deeper into the alpine region.
