About Eskdale & the High Country
Eskdale is a small settlement on the Omeo Highway in the rugged NSW High Country, positioned between the Mitta River valley and the alpine plateau. The area is a hub for walkers, campers, and tourer seeking mountain trails, river scenery, and quiet rest areas scattered through forested terrain.
Walks & Trails
The region has over a dozen walking tracks within 40km, ranging from easy riverside strolls to challenging alpine routes. Close by are the easy Shady Gully Walking Track, Tree Fern Walk, and Black Cockatoo Walk. More experienced hikers can tackle the River Walk to Mitta Township, Pioneer Mine Walking Track, The Staircase, and Michell Hut to Granite Spur. The Bogong Creek Tramway and Luke's Track explore historic mining and remote high country terrain.
Camping
The Eskdale Caravan Park is on-site, with powered and unpowered sites for caravans. Free rest areas nearby include Tallandoon Rest Area, Peters Bridge RA, and Ellis Bridge RA, all within 7km. Further afield are Mitta Mitta Caravan Park, Mountain Creek Campsite, and Running Creek Rest Area, offering a mix of facilities and free options across the High Country.

Sullivan's Lookout (38km) delivers panoramic views across the ranges. Longer drives reach Falls Creek, Mount Feathertop, and Mt Buffalo National Park, home to The Horn Mt Buffalo. The Bonegilla Railway Station (59km) preserves High Country transport history.
