About Jenolan Caves
Jenolan Caves is one of the most extensive and oldest known cave systems in the world, featuring over 300 caves within the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve. The limestone caves contain spectacular formations including stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and underground rivers. Nine caves are open for guided tours and the heritage-listed Caves House provides accommodation within the reserve.

History & Significance
Jenolan Caves is one of the world's oldest and most extensive known cave systems, with European discovery dating to the 1820s. The limestone formations have been developing for millions of years, and the site holds significant geological and cultural heritage within the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve. Nine of the over 300 caves are developed for public access via guided tours.
Warnings
Getting There
Drive 175 km west of Sydney via Great Western Highway then Jenolan Caves Road. The road is narrow with one-way timed sections; check conditions before travelling.
Parking
Free parking available at Caves House. Capacity adequate for standard vehicles; however, the access road is very narrow and caravans/large vehicles are restricted. Check current access conditions before visiting, as road damage and flooding can cause closures.
Visitor Tips
- •Book cave tours well in advance, especially in school holidays. The Grand Arch (a free natural limestone arch entrance) is open all day without a tour ticket.
