About Lithgow & the Blue Mountains

Lithgow sits in the shadow of the Blue Mountains, a historic industrial centre surrounded by bushland, heritage sites, and some of NSW's best short walking trails. The town serves as an ideal base for caravanners and tourers exploring the region's natural beauty and colonial history.

Walks & Trails

Over a dozen trails crisscross the local area, ranging from gentle riverside walks to substantial day hikes. Start close to town with Eskbank Street (3km away) or explore the heritage Zig Zag Walk (7km away). For longer adventures, tackle Lost City Walking Track (10km away) or Rowsons River Walk (11km away). Other notable options include Pottery Track, Cart Path, Channel 6, Pony Express, Sir Joseph Cook Boardwalk, Farmers Creek No 1 Dam, The Lost City Miners Pass Link Track, and Sculpture Walk.

Camping

Lithgow has excellent caravan and campsite options for all needs. Lithgow Tourist Park and Lithgow Tourist & Van Park are both conveniently located just 1km from the visitor centre. For bush camping experiences, try Fernbrook Campground, Wallerawang Ridge Camp, Bowenfels Creek Camping Ground, Bowenfels Lookout Camping Area, Marrangaroo Ridge Bush Camp, Bowenfels Ironbark Bush Camp, Possum Ridge Campsite, or Rydal Spur Bush Camp within 5–8km of town.

Attractions & Things to See

Lithgow's heritage runs deep. The Zig Zag Railway (8km away) showcases Victorian engineering with scenic journeys through the mountains. Closer by, Pedleys Pedestal Trig Station offers excellent views. Further afield, explore the colonial landmarks of Mitchells Pass 1832 (21km), Mitchell Obelisk (21km), and Mitchells Ridge Lookout (21km), plus natural wonders like Pulpit Rock (24km) and Coxs Cave (25km).

Pubs & Dining

Lithgow's town centre has several welcoming pubs within walking distance. Try Commercial Hotel Motel, Lithgow Hotel, or Lansdowne Hotel (all 2km away), or Donnybrook Royal Hotel (4km away). For a scenic pub stop while touring, Royal Hotel / Top Pub (14km) and Hampton Halfway Hotel Motel (25km) make good break points.

Golf

Lithgow Golf Club is just 5km from town. For longer drives, Portland Golf Course (27km), Blackheath Golf Course (33km), Wentworth Falls Country Club (46km), and Leura Golf Course (47km) are accessible day trips into the Blue Mountains.

Wineries & Cellar Doors

Wine lovers can venture to Dryridge Estate (36km) and Megalong Creek Estate (37km) for tastings in the cooler mountain climate.
