About This Trail
Lift-served gravity bike park above Bright in Victoria's alpine high country, with 40+ trails and a chairlift uplift in summer. Mystic Mountain Bike Park, perched above the alpine town of Bright in north-east Victoria, is one of Australia's most established gravity-focused MTB destinations and the cornerstone of the Bright/Beechworth/Mt Beauty high country MTB scene. Operated by Alpine Cycling Club in partnership with the Alpine Shire, the park combines a privately operated chairlift uplift in peak season with shuttle services and self-pedal access, producing one of the most rider-friendly destinations on the mainland. The park has more than 40 marked trails across roughly 50 kilometres of singletrack on the slopes of Mystic Hill, plus connecting trails into the broader Bright network. Trails are graded across the full range from beginner-friendly green flow lines through blue trail-riding loops to advanced black-diamond descents and the legendary downhill course used for national rounds and the Mystic Mountain Bike Festival. Hero trails include Stig (a fast jump-laden flow line), Coronation, Hero Dirt, Ned and Burning Dog. The park has hosted Crankworx Cairns qualifying rounds and the Mystic National Series for years. Uplift options vary by season. The summer chairlift (December to Easter) operates Friday through Sunday and through holiday periods, providing 10-minute lift access to the upper trails. Outside chairlift season, multiple shuttle operators (Mystic MTB Shuttles, Blue Dirt) run uplift buses on demand. Self-pedal access via the climbing trails is also free and frequently used. Bright itself, at the base, is one of the great mountain bike towns in Australia. The Bright Brewery, dozens of cafes and restaurants, multiple bike shops (Cyclepath, Bright Electric Bikes), high-end bike hire including downhill rigs and e-MTB, accommodation from caravan parks to luxury lodges, and a mature events scene make it the equal of Derby in terms of off-bike experience. The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail also passes through, connecting Bright to Beechworth and providing a flat sealed cycling option. The park is best ridden October through May, with autumn (March-May) widely considered prime due to firm tacky dirt and cool temperatures. Winters are cold and the upper mountain occasionally snows but most trails remain rideable. Mystic is often combined with the Beechworth network, Mt Beauty, Falls Creek and Mt Buller for a multi-park alpine MTB trip.
