About Gloucester Tree

The Gloucester Tree in Gloucester National Park near Pemberton is a 60-metre-tall karri tree (Eucalyptus diversicolor) that was once used as a fire lookout, fitted with 153 metal pegs spiralling up the trunk to a fire lookout cabin at 61 metres. Visitors can still climb the tree using the original pegs, making it one of the world's tallest climbable trees with an open-air lookout. The tree is estimated to be about 300 years old and stands in spectacular tall karri forest.
