About Gippsland Lakes

The Gippsland Lakes form the largest inland waterway system in Australia, comprising a network of interconnected lakes, rivers, and estuaries covering approximately 400 square kilometres behind Ninety Mile Beach. The lakes support major commercial and recreational fishing industries, a rich diversity of waterbirds, and popular aquatic recreation. The towns of Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Lakes Entrance, and Metung sit on the lake shores.
