About Maits Rest Rainforest Walk

Maits Rest is a short boardwalk loop through one of the most accessible and impressive cool temperate rainforest stands in the Otways, featuring ancient myrtle beech trees, blackwood, and a dense understorey of soft tree ferns. The 30-minute walk is entirely flat and on boardwalk, making it suitable for all abilities. Interpretive signs explain the ecology and history of the rainforest.

Located directly on the Great Ocean Road between Apollo Bay and Lavers Hill, approximately 17km west of Apollo Bay. Large car park and picnic area on the highway.

  • This is the best easy rainforest walk in the Otways for those with limited mobility or time. Visit early morning when the forest is quiet and birds are most active. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes at a gentle pace.
