About Californian Redwoods Otways
The Californian Redwood plantation near [Beech Forest](/au/places/vic/beech-forest) in the Otways is a grove of Coast Redwood trees (Sequoia sempervirens) planted in the 1930s that now tower more than 40 metres above a carpet of ferns and leaf litter. Walking among these giants feels otherworldly — the cathedral-like canopy, filtered light, and silence create a unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Victoria. The trees are not native but have become a beloved tourist attraction.

Visitor Tips
- •Visit on a misty winter morning for extraordinary light filtering through the canopy. The trees are photogenic throughout the day but the soft diffused light of overcast conditions suits them best. Combine with nearby waterfall walks.
