The Flinders Ranges are ancient folded mountains stretching 400km through the outback of South Australia, representing one of Australia's great geological and cultural landscapes. The range contains rocks up to 800 million years old, fossil sites of Ediacaran organisms, and a living cultural landscape for the Adnyamathanha people. The national park encompasses dramatic gorges, permanent waterholes, and rich wildlife including yellow-footed rock-wallabies.

Getting There
Hawker is the main gateway, 375km from Adelaide via Port Augusta. Wilpena Pound is a further 55km north of Hawker.
Visitor Tips
- •The Heysen Trail passes through the park. Carry a paper map — GPS and mobile coverage are unreliable. Blinman and Parachilna are good bases for the northern ranges.
