About Babinda Boulders
Babinda Boulders is a dramatic gorge filled with large granite boulders through which the crystal-clear Babinda Creek races in a series of whirlpools, channels, and natural swimming holes. Located just 7 km from the township of Babinda, the site is sacred to the Yirrganydji people as the place where a young woman named Oolana drowned while searching for her lover, and the swirling waters are said to be her spirit. A short forest walk connects the swimming area to the dramatic Devil's Pool — a dangerous, spectacular whirlpool where swimming is strictly prohibited.

History & Significance
Babinda Boulders holds deep significance to the Yirrganydji people, with local Aboriginal tradition telling of a young woman named Oolana who drowned in the gorge while searching for her lover. The swirling waters of Devil's Pool are said to embody her spirit, and the site remains spiritually important to the traditional owners. The dramatic granite boulder formation was created through natural geological processes over millions of years as Babinda Creek carved through the landscape.
