Atherton is a rural town perched on the Atherton Tablelands, a productive agricultural plateau in Far North Queensland. The area is surrounded by walking trails, volcanic crater lakes, and ancient fig trees, making it a natural hub for exploring the region's natural heritage.

Walks & Trails

The area offers a substantial network of hiking trails within close reach. Licketty split is just 1km away, while the Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail provides an accessible route through the local landscape. For more varied terrain, try Yabi Bush Walk, Track 8.1 - Hack, Track 8.2 - Appendicitis, Track 2.9 - Rock Slide, and Ewe Beauty, all within 3km. Longer day walks include Track 1 - Knowles Nard, Track 6 - Ridgy Didge, and several other tracks accessible within the immediate vicinity.

Camping

Attractions & Things to See

The Cathedral Fig Tree is a spectacular ancient specimen 6km from Atherton. Further afield, Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine are volcanic crater lakes offering scenic stops, while the Curtain Fig Tree is another remarkable natural feature. For waterfall visitors, Stoney Creek Falls and Zillie Falls are day-trip destinations.
