History & Significance

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve protects 5,400 hectares of native bushland and is home to significant populations of koalas, swamp wallabies, and burrowing bettongs. The reserve was established to preserve ACT wildlife habitat and offers both day-use and camping facilities. It remains an important conservation area in the Canberra region.

Getting There

Located near Canberra, approximately 40 km south-west of the city centre. Access via Paddys River Road from Tuggeranong. No public transport available — own vehicle essential.

Parking

Free parking available at Visitor Centre and major trailheads. Capacity varies by location; arrive early during peak periods to secure a spot. Some overflow parking available. Accessible parking near Visitor Centre and main facilities.

Visitor Tips

  • Start with the Visitor Centre for maps and current wildlife info
  • Walk the shorter trails first (1-2 km) if visiting with kids or limited time
