About Moondarra & Gippsland's Forest Trails

Moondarra State Park sits at the heart of Gippsland's forested landscape, offering direct access to a network of walking tracks that wind through fern gullies and mountain ash forest. The Seninis Visitor Area serves as a gateway to some of Victoria's most rewarding day walks and multi-day touring loops.

Walks & Trails

The area is a hiker's hub with over a dozen trails within easy reach. Close by are Tyers Junction Rail Trail, Roots and All, and Skirts, all within 5km. Slightly further afield lie the Tyers Rail Trail, Winch Line, Axemen, Scream, and Berries tracks. For experienced walkers, the Old Government Road offers a more technical challenge. The Walhalla Rail Trail and Moe–Walhalla narrow-gauge railway provide scenic alternatives through the historic mining region.

Camping

Seninis Campground is on-site and free, making it an ideal base for exploring the park's trails. Additional caravan parks and campsites are scattered through the region: Erica Caravan Park and Coopers Creek Caravan Park are 8–12km away, with further options like Western Tyers and Coopers Crossing for those touring through the forest.

Attractions & Things to See

Beyond the trails, nearby natural landmarks include the Aberfeldy River and A P M Aeration Pond. For a longer drive, Tarra-Bulga National Park is 58km away, while The Big Gumboot at 48km offers a quirky roadside photo stop.

Golf

Golfers will find Moe Golf Course and Yallourn Golf Club within 20km. Morwell Golf Club, Toongabbie Golf Course, and Trafalgar Golf Club extend options across the Gippsland region.

Pubs & Dining

The Erica Hotel is 8km away and convenient for a meal after a day on the trails. For more dining variety, Walhalla Lodge Hotel, Newborough Hotel, Penny Lane, and Mid City Tavern are within 24km.
