About Advancetown & the Gold Coast Hinterland

Advancetown sits in the Gold Coast hinterland, a lush mountain region that rises behind the coast. The area is defined by rainforest, creek systems, and excellent access to hiking—from easy family walks to challenging ridge tracks. Hinze Dam itself is a major water storage and scenic focal point, with the visitor centre offering early-morning access (opening from 5:30am in summer) for walkers and nature watchers.

Walks & Trails

The trails here range from short creek walks to longer ridge adventures. Close to the visitor centre, Lower Duncan's Creek Track and Duncans Creek Track offer easy access to water and forest, while Family Loop and Bill's Loop are ideal for mixed-ability groups. Further out, a network of single-track trails awaits: Terminator, GG's, Upper GGs, GGs Link, Raptor, Vertigo, and Wimps all sit around 10km away, offering varied terrain for mountain bikers and experienced hikers. Pages Pinnacle footpad crosses the border into NSW and provides moderate ridge-top walking.

Camping

Advancetown Caravan Park is just 3km away and offers on-site parking and facilities for caravans and camper trailers. For more options, Sharp Park Camping Ground and River Bend Camping Ground are within 9km. Those exploring deeper into the ranges can access Clagiraba Plateau Camp, Nerang Caravan Park, and Mt Nimmel Lodge Campground further out.

Attractions & Things to See

Advancetown Lake is immediately adjacent to the dam, offering scenic views and a natural focal point. Waterfall walks Purling Brook Falls and Curtis Falls are both within striking distance for day trips. For rainy-day alternatives, the Gold Coast's major attractions—Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast, Warner Bros. Movie World, SkyPoint Observation Deck, and Topgolf Gold Coast—are 18–20km away.

Wineries & Cellar Doors

The Gold Coast hinterland is Queensland's premier wine region. Albert River Wines is 17km away, while Hampton Estate Wines, Sarabah Estate Vineyard, Cedar Creek Estate, and The Queensland Wine Centre are clustered around the 20–21km mark, making for a natural touring route.

Golf

The Grand Golf Club is just 6km away. Other courses within touring distance include Canungra Golf Course (10km), Lakelands Golf Course (11km), Palmer Colonial Golf Course (12km), and Glades Golf Course (12km).
