About the Mt Buller Bike Park
Lift-served alpine bike park with 100+ km of trails including the longest descending trail in Australia, the 40km Australian Alpine Epic.
Mount Buller Bike Park, set on the alpine resort 240 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, is one of Australia's most expansive lift-served mountain biking destinations and home to some of the most acclaimed long-distance singletrack in the country. Operated by Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management in partnership with local trail builders, the park combines summer chairlift access on the Northside Express, a network of cross-country and gravity trails on the mountain itself, and connector trails reaching down to the village of Mansfield in the valley.
The network totals more than 100 kilometres of purpose-built and adapted trails. The flagship is the Australian Alpine Epic — a 40-kilometre descending point-to-point trail from the summit of Mt Buller down to Mirimbah at the base, recognised as an IMBA Epic (one of only two in Australia at time of designation) and widely considered the country's premier long-format MTB ride. The trail flows through alpine ash forest, snow-gum country, granite outcrops and fern gullies, with a vertical drop of around 1,300 metres.
In addition to the Epic, the bike park itself has dedicated downhill and freeride trails serviced by the Northside Express chairlift in summer (typically mid-December to late April, daily during peak season). Hero trails on the lift-served side include Copperhead (a flow trail), Gangs of Buller (technical descent) and the Buller DH course. The Klingsporn Trail and Delatite River Trail provide longer XC and trail-riding loops, with the Delatite running 16km along the river through tall forest.
Mansfield, in the valley below, functions as a secondary basecamp with its own emerging trail network and serves as the start point for many riders tackling shuttled rides up the mountain. Multiple operators run shuttles to the summit. Bike hire including downhill rigs and e-MTB is available at the village and in Mansfield. Accommodation on the mountain ranges from ski lodges (open in summer) to luxury chalets; Mansfield has more diverse and budget-friendly options.
The park typically operates from Boxing Day through to late April. The Australian Alpine Epic is rideable from the moment the access road opens (usually mid-November) through to the first snowfalls. Lift-served days require a day pass; the trails themselves are free to ride if accessed by shuttle or self-pedal.
