About the MetroWay
The Southwest Metro will deliver a new active transport link connecting riders and walkers on a new rail-side trail between Bankstown all the way to the GreenWay at Dulwich Hill and on to Marrickville Metro Station.
A new 13.8 km walking, running and cycling path will be built parallel to Sydney’s Southwest Metro, to be known during design and construction as MetroWay and linking Marrickville to the suburbs of Canterbury, Campsie, Lakemba and Bankstown. This region of Sydney currently has very few off-road active transport options.
The MetroWay will include trees, lighting, clear wayfinding and access to more than 350 bike parking spaces at southwest stations, encouraging more people to leave the car at home. The new active transport link will connect new metro stations with existing and planned cycling networks including the GreenWay and will be designed for people of all ages and abilities.
When constructed, MetroWay will be Sydney’s fourth significant rail-side trail, adding to Parramatta-Liverpool, Rosehill-Carlingford and the recently-opened GreenWay. Construction of MetroWay is expected to start in late 2026.
