Yellow Water Billabong (Ngurrungurrudjba in the Bininj/Mungguy language) is located within Kakadu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Area recognised for its outstanding natural and cultural values. The billabong has been a significant food source and cultural site for Bininj/Mungguy people for thousands of years. Today it is managed as one of Australia's premier wildlife-watching destinations, with boat cruises operating since the 1980s.

From Jabiru, drive 55km south on the Kakadu Highway to Cooinda. Cruise bookings at the Cooinda Lodge.
Parking
Free parking available at Cooinda visitor area. Capacity typically adequate except during peak dry season (June–August). Accessible parking available near boat launch. Overflow parking nearby if main area full.

- •The dawn cruise is the best value — book online at least 2 weeks ahead in June-August
- •Bring a long telephoto lens for wildlife photography
- •Magpie geese are present in huge numbers in dry season — over 30,000 have been counted
