History & Significance

The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) are sacred to the Anangu people and hold significant cultural and spiritual importance. The sunset viewing area was established to accommodate the growing number of visitors wanting to photograph and experience the dramatic colour changes of the rock formations at dusk.

Located near Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, approximately 50 km southwest of Uluru. Access via Lasseter Highway from Yulara township. No public transport; self-drive essential.

Free parking available at the viewing area. Capacity is moderate; arrives early during peak season (May and August) to secure a spot. Facilities are basic; no formal accessibility infrastructure noted.

  • Arrive 30-45 minutes before sunset for best light and positioning
