About Adventure World Perth

Western Australia's only theme and water park, located south of Perth. Features thrill rides, water slides, and the Abyss roller coaster. Seasonal operation.

Adventure World is Western Australia's only theme and water park, sitting about 30 kilometres south of Perth in the suburb of Banjup. Open seasonally from October through to April, it combines dry thrill rides with water slides and family-friendly attractions, making it a full-day destination for visitors of most ages. Admission is $79.99 for adults and $59.99 for children.

What to See and Do

The park's headline attraction is the Abyss roller coaster, the kind of ride that draws repeat visitors and gives the park its credentials as a genuine thrill destination. Beyond the Abyss, the park offers a mix of dry rides and water slides - the combination means you can structure your day to move between the two, using the water attractions as a natural cooldown during the hotter parts of the afternoon.

Younger children are catered for with gentler ride options, and the water park areas suit families with kids of varying ages. The park describes itself as suitable for all ages, though the major thrill rides are best suited to older children and adults.

Wheelchair access and pram-friendly infrastructure are available throughout the park, and lockers are on-site for securing belongings while you're on rides or in the water.

History

Adventure World opened in 1985, establishing itself early as Western Australia's primary theme and water park destination. The park has expanded and been renovated over the decades, with the Abyss roller coaster representing one of its most significant additions as a dedicated thrill ride. It remains the only facility of its kind in WA - no other park in the state combines both dry rides and full water park attractions at this scale.

Getting There and Access

The park is located in Banjup, south of Perth. From the CBD, take the Kwinana Freeway south - it's approximately 30 kilometres and takes around 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The park is well-signposted from major roads once you're in the area.

There is no public transport access to Adventure World, so a car is essential. Free on-site parking is available with capacity for several hundred vehicles, and accessible parking is located near the main entrance. On peak season weekends, the car parks can fill by early afternoon, so arriving before 11am is advisable. Overflow parking may be available in adjacent areas during busy periods.

Best Time to Visit

The park operates seasonally from October to April only - check the schedule on the Adventure World website before planning your visit, as specific operating dates vary. During the season, weekdays in school term time offer noticeably shorter queues on the major attractions.

If you're visiting during summer, the afternoon heat in Perth can be intense. Getting to the park at opening (10:00am) lets you tackle the popular rides like the Abyss while queues are manageable, before the crowds and heat peak in the middle of the day.

Food and Facilities

There is a café on-site, and BYO food is permitted in the park's picnic areas. If you're planning a full day, bringing your own lunch is a practical way to keep costs down and avoid queuing at the food outlets during peak meal times.

Toilets, a gift shop, and parking are all available on-site. It's worth noting that shade is limited across the park, which is a real consideration during the warmer months when temperatures in Perth regularly climb above 35°C.

Visitor Tips

  • Arrive before 11am. The Abyss and other popular rides develop long queues as the morning progresses. Getting there at opening gives you a clear run at the major attractions.
  • Alternate rides and water slides. Structuring your day to mix dry and wet attractions keeps you cooler and helps pace the day across multiple zones.
  • Sunscreen is essential. Reapply after water activities - the combination of sun and water exposure means protection wears off faster than you'd expect.
  • Wear water shoes or thongs in the water park areas. Wet surfaces and hot pavement make closed shoes impractical.
  • Check the seasonal calendar at adventureworld.net.au before visiting. The park is closed outside the October-April window.
  • Budget accordingly. Entry fees, food, and parking add up on a family visit. Taking advantage of the BYO food policy and arriving early to maximise ride time before purchasing extras helps stretch the day.
