Best Time to Visit
October–May offers ideal weather and winery activity. Harvest season (February–April) provides vineyard atmosphere. Quieter June–September for a more intimate experience. Avoid extreme summer heat (December–January) if visiting without air-conditioned vehicle.

Located in the heart of McLaren Vale, about 40 kilometres south of Adelaide, S.C. Pannell is the personal label of winemaker Stephen Pannell — a figure with deep roots in the South Australian wine industry. The winery is built around a clear philosophy: small-batch, terroir-driven wines that reflect the character of their origins, with minimal distraction from the winemaking itself.
The Wines
S.C. Pannell's focus sits firmly on the varieties that South Australia does best. Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon anchor the red wine range, while cool-climate whites round out the portfolio. Fruit is sourced from established vineyard sites across South Australia's premium growing regions, and the emphasis is on vintage variation — meaning what you taste will genuinely reflect the conditions of the year it was grown.
The winery is known for its single vineyard and small-batch releases, which rewards visitors who take the time to work through the current range with a knowledgeable staff member. This is serious winemaking, but the cellar door is far from intimidating.
Cellar Door Experience
The tasting room is modern and minimalist, designed to keep the focus on what's in the glass rather than the trappings around it. Tastings cover a selection of current releases across both red and white varieties, and the atmosphere is relaxed enough to linger and ask questions.
Walk-ins are welcome, but booking ahead is recommended during the busier months from October through to May. Groups can be accommodated with advance notice. The cellar door is open seven days a week, from 10am to 5pm.
Food and Dining
There's no restaurant on-site, but the cellar door offers platters featuring local produce and cheese — a practical option if you're looking to extend your visit without venturing elsewhere. The outdoor seating area is BYO picnic friendly and shaded, making it a comfortable spot for families or those travelling by caravan.
Getting There
S.C. Pannell is straightforward to reach via the Fleurieu Peninsula drive south from Adelaide. There's on-site parking for standard vehicles and caravans, with coach parking available by arrangement. A private vehicle is essential — there's no public transport servicing the cellar door directly.
