Portsea sits at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula, where Port Phillip Bay meets the open ocean. Point Nepean National Park dominates the area, offering rugged coastal scenery, walking trails with bay and ocean views, and significant military heritage sites. This is prime terrain for road-trippers seeking coastal walks and water-facing camping spots.

Walks & Trails

The park has excellent day walks for all levels. Wilsons Folly and Farnsworth Track are close to the visitor centre (1–2km). For moderate hiking, try London Bridge in Mornington Peninsula National Park, or the scenic Millionaires Walk and Cheviot Hill Walk within Point Nepean itself. Coles Track is an easy 2.4km option, while Coppins Track offers another gentle alternative nearby.

Camping

Point Nepean Discovery Tents is just 2km away, offering a convenient base within the park. For caravan facilities, Sorrento Foreshore Reserve is 7km north, with larger caravan parks at Queenscliff (9–12km): Queenscliff Recreational Reserve, The Springs, Queenscliff Tourist Park, and BIG4 Ingenia Holidays Queenscliff Beacon.

Golf

Portsea Golf Club is just 1km away, with Sorrento Golf Club at 4km. The Queenscliff Golf Club and Lonsdale Links are further inland (11–14km).
