About This Trail

An adventure in the making, the Hamilton-Coleraine Rail Trail has a bridge missing near the middle, but don't let that put you off. The Hamilton-Coleraine Rail Reserve, is a 37km walking and cycling trail in western Victoria. This conservation reserve follows the path of a former railway line that operated from 1888 until its closure in 1977. The trail features historical infrastructure, including 15 bridges and significant earthworks, and traverses diverse landscapes rich in native flora and fauna. The whole 37km is an accessible walking and cycling conservation reserve. All native fauna and flora is protected and to be respected, so, NO hunting and please refrain from picking wildflowers. No motorised access is permitted (except e-bikes and electric wheelchairs) unless by prior consent. For the benefit of all please take your litter with you, travel safely and we hope you enjoy your journey. We would like to thank both DEECA and the Shire of Southern Grampians for their assistance in the development of this trail. As yet, we are unable to follow the route across the Grange Burn Bridge. Instead, follow the alternate route: Hamilton Railway Station still sees freight trains and is where to catch the V/Line bus [2024]
