About This Trail
95km loop through the Sunshine Coast hinterland via Maleny, Montville and Mooloolah Valley - rolling sealed roads and Glass House Mountains views. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland loop is South-East Queensland's premier road ride and a regular pilgrimage for Brisbane cyclists looking for cooler air and longer climbs than the Mt Glorious area offers. The standard route runs Mooloolah-Maleny-Montville-Mapleton-Eumundi-Cooroy-Eumundi-Yandina-Mooloolah, around 95km with 1,500m of elevation gain. The two key climbs are the Maleny climb (8km at 5%) and the rolling Montville-Mapleton ridge. The loop's character is defined by lush green dairy country, the dramatic Glass House Mountains rising to the south, and the cluster of pretty hinterland towns (Maleny, Montville, Mapleton) that line the Blackall Range. The roads are wide, well-paved, with moderate weekend tourist traffic. Maleny is the unofficial cycling capital of the hinterland, with multiple cafes (Maple 3, Sweets on Maple) and a strong local cycling community. Gradient profile — Avg gradient: 1.6%, Max gradient: 10%.
Warnings
Weekend tourist traffic in Maleny/Montville; narrow Obi Obi descent.
