The chasm is around 30 metres deep and the waves can be seen crashing violently far below the safety fence at the cliff top. Its dramatic dolerite walls and surging chasm earned it a fearsome name reflecting the raw power of the Southern Ocean. Part of a cluster of spectacular coastal formations (with Tasman Arch and the Blowhole) that showcase the region's remarkable geology.

Getting There

Located on the Tasman Peninsula near Port Arthur, approximately 90 km south-east of Hobart. Drive via Arthur Highway towards Port Arthur; the cliff formations are accessed via the scenic coastal loop near Eaglehawk Neck. Parking is signposted at the Devils Kitchen carpark.
