History & Significance
The Captain Cook Memorial Jet was constructed in 1970 to commemorate the bicentenary of Captain James Cook's voyage along the Australian east coast. It shoots water 147 metres into the air from Lake Burley Griffin and has become an iconic Canberra landmark. The jet operates on a schedule and is a popular photo spot for visitors.
