About Kalbarri National Park (Nature's Window, Z-Bend, The Loop)

Kalbarri National Park protects the dramatic gorges carved by the Murchison River through ancient Tumblagooda sandstone, as well as spectacular coastal cliffs. Nature's Window is an iconic arch of eroded rock framing a perfect view of the Murchison River gorge below. The Z-Bend lookout and gorge trail descend 150 metres to the river, and the 9 km Loop Walk connects both features.

Kalbarri National Park protects the dramatic gorges carved by the Murchison River through ancient Tumblagooda sandstone, as well as spectacular coastal cliffs. Nature's Window is an iconic arch of eroded rock framing a perfect view of the Murchison River gorge below. The Z-Bend lookout and gorge trail descend 150 metres to the river, and the 9 km Loop Walk connects both features. The Kalbarri Skywalk opened in 2020, extending 100 metres out over the gorge for vertigo-inducing views.

Getting There

Nature's Window/The Loop is 37.5 km (35 min) from Kalbarri town on sealed road; Z-Bend is a further 7 km southeast. Kalbarri is 590 km north of Perth.

Visitor Tips

  • Kalbarri Skywalk is a separate attraction near the main gorge sites — well worth the stop
  • The Loop Walk starts and ends at Nature's Window carpark
  • Dawn visits to Nature's Window allow photography without crowds
  • Coastal cliffs (Island Rock, Natural Bridge) are a separate section 8–10 km south of Kalbarri town
