About Geikie Gorge (Danggu)

Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park is the most accessible Kimberley gorge, located just 20 km from Fitzroy Crossing on a sealed road. The Fitzroy River cuts through the ancient Devonian-era Geikie Range, exposing fossil-rich limestone walls up to 30 metres high that are strikingly banded in white and ochre. The gorge is a significant spiritual place for the Bunuba people, and a remarkable seasonal flood brings marine stingrays, sawfish, and barramundi over 300 km upstream into this freshwater gorge.
