History & Significance
The Pieman River flows through one of Tasmania's most pristine wilderness areas, the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area established to protect ancient rainforest and wild west coast ecosystems. Corinna developed as a historic timber milling town in the late 1800s and remains a gateway to this remote region. The river's tannin-stained waters and old-growth Huon pine forests are relics of Tasmania's pre-logging landscape.
