About Tunnel Creek
Tunnel Creek is the oldest cave system in the Kimberley, formed as a subterranean stream carved through the Napier Range limestone over millions of years, creating a 750-metre-long natural tunnel. Visitors wade and walk through the cave in ankle-to-knee-deep water in complete darkness (torches essential), emerging at the other end in a beautiful gorge. The cave is famous as the hideout of the Aboriginal resistance leader Jandamarra (Pigeon) from 1894 to 1897, and freshwater crocodiles, bats, and cave fish inhabit the darkness.
