Mataranka Falls

Near Mataranka township, approximately 100 km south of Katherine. Access via the Stuart Highway, then local roads to the falls. About 3.5 hours drive from Darwin.

Mataranka Falls is a local waterhole within Elsey National Park, an area of cultural significance to the Jawoyn and Dagoman Aboriginal peoples. The surrounding region is known for its natural springs and thermal pools.

Visit early morning to avoid crowds and heat
Bring plenty of water — there's limited shade at the falls
Wear water shoes for slippery rocks
Check water level before visiting — flow varies seasonally
Swim only in designated safe areas
