About Portland & the Southwest Coast
Portland is a working port town on Victoria's southwest coast, known for its dramatic clifftop scenery, coastal trails, and access to some of the region's most rewarding walks. The town serves as a gateway to the Great South West Walk and numerous day hikes through heathland, forest, and along windswept headlands.
Walks & Trails
Several excellent day walks are within reach: Yellow Rock, Enchanted Forest Walk, and Ledge Walk are all under 10km away. For more ambitious trips, the Blowholes Walk, Petrified Forest Walk, and Noels Walk lie 25km south. The multi-day Great South West Walk (250km) is one of Australia's premier long-distance hikes and begins 29km from town, with dedicated campsites along the route.
Camping
Several caravan parks and campsites cluster within 6km of town centre: Portland Holiday Village, Portland Bay Holiday Park, and Portland Headland Camping Area are all 1km away, while Portland Claremont Tourist Park sits 3km out. For those attempting the Great South West Walk, GSWW Mallee Hike-In Camp and GSWW Trewalla Camp are positioned 14km away along the walk route.
