About Bakers Beach & Narawntapu National Park

Narawntapu National Park sprawls across Tasmania's northern coast, protecting pristine beaches, lagoons, and eucalypt woodlands between Bakers Beach and the Tamar estuary. The park is known for its prolific wildlife—including Tasmanian devils, wallabies, and waterbirds—and its network of accessible coastal and inland walks that range from short nature strolls to challenging full-day hikes.

Walks & Trails

The park offers excellent walking variety for touring groups. Easy options include the Bird Hide Walk, Springlawn Nature Walk (4.8km), and Springlawn Lagoon Circuit Walk, all within 1km of the visitor centre and ideal for spotting waterbirds. For more distance, Archers Knob (9km) and Bakers Beach Coastal Route deliver coastal views and elevated perspectives. Experienced walkers can tackle Point Vision Track (15km, hard) or explore Carbuncle Walking Track, Marys Creek Walkway, and Dazzler - Briggs Fire Trail further afield.

Attractions & Things to See

Narawntapu National Park itself is the main drawcard, with opportunities for wildlife spotting and beach access. For longer day trips, Mole Creek Karst National Park (64km) features underground landscapes, with Marakoopa Cave and King Solomons Cave offering guided cave tours. Cataract Gorge near Launceston (76km) is worth the drive for dramatic river scenery.

Wineries & Cellar Doors

The region supports a growing wine scene. Hawley Vineyard (6km) and Ghost Rock Vineyard (11km) are conveniently close. Further afield around Launceston, Chartley Estate, La Villa, Small Wonder, and Vintner's Nest Wines (all 28–29km) make for a rewarding cellar door loop.

Golf

George Town Golf Course is 26km away for a casual round. Longer stays can include Exeter Golf Course (46km) or courses near Launceston.

Pubs & Dining

Shearwater Country Club (6km) provides the closest hospitality. In George Town (24km), Molly Malone's, The Central, and George Town RSL offer meals and accommodation. Miners Gold Brewery (23km) and Bell Bay Seaman Center (23km) add further options.
