About Whyalla & the Eyre Peninsula

Whyalla sits on the western shore of Spencer Gulf, a working industrial port town with a distinctive character shaped by its steel heritage. The town serves as a base for exploring the rugged landscape of the Eyre Peninsula, with easy access to hiking trails ranging from short city walks to longer gorge treks in the nearby ranges.

Walks & Trails

The City Walk Trail is just 3km away, offering a local option for a quick stroll. For more substantial hiking, the Eyre Peninsula's gorge country lies within day-trip distance: Black Oak Cove (29km), Baroota Hike (62km), and Hidden Gorge (66km) offer varied terrain through native bushland. Longer multi-trail options include Mambray Creek to Alligator Gorge Hike (70km), which combines creek walks with dramatic gorge scenery.

Attractions & Things to See

Adder Hill is a natural landmark 58km inland, worth the drive for landscape views across the Peninsula's interior.

Golf

The Whyalla Golf & Bowling Club is just 1km from town for a quick round. Port Pirie Golf Course (60km) offers an alternative if you're travelling south along the coast.

Pubs & Dining

Several hotels are within easy reach of town. The Eyre Hotel, Hotel Bay View with a beer garden, and Bayview Hotel are all within 2km. Westlands Hotel (5km) also features a beer garden. For accommodation with dining, Port Germein Hotel (40km) offers a bistro and rooms.
