About Bowen & the Whitsunday Coast

Bowen is a relaxed coastal town on the Bruce Highway between Townsville and the Whitsundays, known for its sheltered beaches, clear waters, and fruit-growing heritage. The area offers accessible waterfront walks, good camping facilities, and a genuine local character without the crowds of nearby tourist hotspots.

Walks & Trails

Bowen's foreshore has several easy, well-maintained walking tracks perfect for caravans and families. The Front Beach to Sporting Complex Walks (4.6km) and Bowen Foreshore & Jetty are just 5km away and offer scenic coastal views. For slightly longer walks, try Mullers Lagoon to Queens Bay (3.8km) or Bowen Foreshore to Queens Bay (3.5km). Cape Edgecumbe Walking Trail offers more dramatic coastal scenery 10km away.

Camping

Multiple caravan parks are within easy reach, with Bowen Palms Caravan Park and Bowen Village Caravan Park just 2–3km away. For beachfront stays, NRMA Bowen Beachfront Holiday Park and Queens Beach Tourist Village (7–8km) provide waterfront camping. Glen Erin Farm Stay offers a quieter alternative 9km inland.

The Big Mango roadside icon is 19km south and worth a quick photo stop on the drive.

Golf

Bowen Golf Course is 8km away and provides a pleasant round in a tropical setting.

Pubs & Dining

Bowen has several pubs within easy reach. The Denison Hotel, Grandview Hotel, and Central Hotel are all about 5km away and offer typical North Queensland hospitality and local atmosphere.
