About Hay & the Murrumbidgee River

Hay sits on the Murrumbidgee River in inland NSW, a working rural town that serves as a stopover for travellers heading into the outback. The river and surrounding reserves offer a peaceful base for exploring this quiet corner of the state.

Camping

Hay has excellent camping options within easy reach. The BIG4 Hay Plains Holiday Park and Sandy Point Reserve (free camping) are both just 1km away, while Hay Showground and Hay Caravan Park are 2km out. For riverside camping, try Brandons Bend Reserve at 3km, or venture further to Wooloondool Camp Ground, Illilawa Reserve, Eli Elwah Reserve, Nine Mile Reserve, and Meriola Reserve for quieter stays along the river.

Pubs & Dining

The Riverina Hotel and New Crown Hotel are both centrally located. The South Hay Hotel is just 1km away and offers a more relaxed local atmosphere.
