About Mutawintji & Mutawintji National Park

Mutawintji National Park protects a remote corner of the NSW outback, where rocky gorges, Aboriginal rock art, and native grasslands create a striking landscape. The park sits within traditional Malyangapa and Paakinji country, and walking trails here reveal both natural beauty and cultural heritage sites. This is a quiet destination for road trippers seeking solitude and connection to the outback.

Walks & Trails

Eight walks range from easy gorge strolls to moderate ridge hikes. Start close by with the Western Ridge Walk (2km) or Thaaklatjika Mingkana Walk (4km), or venture to the scenic Homestead Gorge Walk and Mutawintji Gorge Walk (both 5km). For a challenge, the Rockholes Loop Walk (6km) and Split Rock Walking Track (9km) reward effort with expansive views. The Perigrine Trail (12km) is the longest option for experienced hikers.

Camping

Homestead Creek Campground is just 2km away and offers convenient caravan and tent camping within the park. For budget travellers, Spring Hills Rest Area is a free alternative 86km away.
