Kinchega Visitor Centre

Menindee, New South Wales

About Menindee & Kinchega National Park

Menindee sits on the edge of the Darling River in far western New South Wales, gateway to one of inland Australia's most significant wetland systems. The area is defined by its chain of lakes, red earth, and rich pastoral history — a landscape where water and sky dominate the horizon.

Walks & Trails

Two heritage walks depart from the Kinchega area. The Old Kinchega Homestead Ruins Walk traces 5km through the remnants of a 19th-century station, while the Old Kinchega Homestead Billabong Walk follows water country where wildlife congregates. Both offer insight into the region's pioneering era and its ecology.

Camping

Accommodation options range from the close-by Emu Lake Campground just 1km away, to established parks like Menindee Lake Caravan Park and Copi Hollow Caravan Park. For free camping, Lake Menindee Bush Camp, Main Weir Campground, and Burke and Wills Campground sit along the lakes, ideal for caravans and camper trailers exploring the region.

Golf

The Menindee Golf Club lies 21km from the visitor centre, offering a round in the heart of outback country.
