About Broken Hill & the Far Western Outback

Broken Hill sits in the remote outback of far western New South Wales, built on a history of silver, lead, and zinc mining. The town and its surrounding landscape offer walkers and travellers a network of trails through arid terrain, alongside genuine outback hospitality and a string of heritage pubs.

Walks & Trails

A dozen walking tracks radiate from Broken Hill, ranging from the short Lane Lane just 1km away to longer routes 5–6km out. Popular options include Regen Walking Track, Pepper Tree, Beaver Creek, and Quartz Knob. For more variety, try Vu Loop, Snake Gully, or the Conrod Straight options. These trails suit day walkers and offer views across the outback landscape.

Camping

Several caravan parks operate close to town: Broken Hill Tourist Park (2km), Silverland Caravan Park (4km), and Lakeview Caravan Park (4km) all have full facilities. For budget camping, Round Hill Rest Area offers free camping 8km out, while Starview Primitive Campsite provides a basic option nearby.
