About This Trail

The Wheatbelt Way Rail Trail initiative is being led by the Shires of Wyalkatchem, Trayning and Nungarin in conjunction with the North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils (NEWROC). Proposed as a low-cost rail trail, the intention is to formalise use of the existing maintenance access tracks which run parallel to disused Wyalkatchem - Merredin Railway. The Wheatbelt Way is a proposed rail trail in Western Australia’s Central Wheatbelt. At approximately 70 km in length, the proposed rail trail will link the small farming communities of Wyalkatchem, Yelbeni, Trayning, Kununoppin and Nungarin. The aim of the project is to showcase the rich heritage of the region to tourists and visitors, while providing a recreational asset for the local community. In addition to passing through the main towns of Wyalkatchem, Trayning, Kununoppin and Nungarin, the proposed trail will traverse a number of small historic localities including Korrelocking, Nembudding, Yelbeni and Kwelkan. Do you know of a bike hire or transportation service on this rail trail that should appear here? If so, let us know at admin@railtrails.org.au.
