The Yarra Glen-Healesville Loop is Melbourne's signature 'big day out' Yarra Valley ride and a perennial favourite for both bunch rides and Audax events. From Lilydale (the eastern suburbs train terminus, used by many as a car-free start) the standard route runs Lilydale-Yarra Glen-Tarrawarra-Healesville-Coldstream-Lilydale. Total distance is around 95km with approximately 800m of climbing - a moderate effort suitable for fit recreational riders. The loop's character is shaped by the patchwork of vineyards, dairy pastures and tall mountain-ash forests that define the Yarra Valley. The roads are mostly wide with good shoulders, well-paved, and have moderate weekend tourist traffic. Two key climbs anchor the ride: the punchy Pinnacle Lane / Tarrawarra ridge climb (1.5km, 6%) and the rolling section between Healesville and Coldstream. The ride's coffee culture is exceptional - Tokar Estate, Tarrawarra Estate, Innocent Bystander and Four Pillars Distillery are all on or near the route.
