About This Trail
10.6km climb from Samford Valley to Mt Glorious village - Brisbane's premier road climb with 540m of vertical gain through subtropical rainforest. Mt Glorious is southeast Queensland's signature road climb and the Brisbane cycling community's weekend ritual. From the Samford Valley servo, the road climbs 10.6km to the Mt Glorious village at 640m, gaining around 540m at an average gradient of just over 5%. The climb has two distinct parts: a steeper opening 4km through Mt Nebo at 6-7%, then a more rolling middle section before a final ramp to Mt Glorious that includes a 9% pinch through the rainforest. The road traverses D'Aguilar National Park's subtropical rainforest, with the canopy closing overhead in the steepest sections. The road surface is generally good with some patches, narrow throughout, and trafficked with motorbikes on weekends - caution is essential. A standard Brisbane loop is the 110km Samford-Mt Nebo-Mt Glorious-Wivenhoe-Samford ride. Strong climbers tackle the 10.6km in 30-35 minutes. Best ridden year-round but ideal April through October when humidity drops. Gradient profile — Avg gradient: 5.1%, Max gradient: 9%.
Warnings
Narrow road, no shoulder; technical descent with greasy surface in dew/rain; summer storms.
