History & Significance

Illawarra Fly is a treetop canopy walk attraction featuring an elevated boardwalk through native bushland. Established to provide a unique perspective of the eucalyptus forest canopy ecosystem. The walk showcases the biodiversity of the Illawarra region's natural environment.

Getting There

Located near Somersby in the Illawarra region, approximately 15 km south of Gosford. Access via Pacific Motorway (M1) heading toward Wollongong. Well signposted from local roads. Nearest major town is Gosford (15 km north).

Parking

Free on-site parking available with good capacity. Accessible parking spaces provided near entrance. Generally adequate for day visitors, though can fill during peak school holidays.

Visitor Tips

  • Book online in advance during school holidays and weekends to avoid queues
  • Start with the treetop walk early to beat crowds and enjoy cooler morning temperatures
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip for the canopy walkway
  • Bring water and sunscreen — there's limited shade on the elevated sections
  • Allow 1.5–2 hours minimum for the experience
