History & Significance

Cutta Cutta Caves is a rare tropical karst limestone cave system in the Top End, formed over millions of years through water dissolving limestone bedrock. The caves are significant for their geological formations—stalactites, stalagmites, shawls, and straws—and as critical habitat for two bat species including the endangered ghost bat. The site is protected as a nature park and managed by the NT Parks and Wildlife Commission.
