History & Significance

Reef HQ opened in 1998 as the world's largest living coral reef aquarium, built to showcase and study the Great Barrier Reef. The facility includes a working turtle hospital that treats injured and sick sea turtles, contributing to conservation and marine research. It serves as both a major Townsville attraction and an important marine education and rehabilitation centre.
