About Crystal Cascades

Crystal Cascades is a series of small waterfalls and clear freshwater swimming holes in the rainforest foothills 15 km west of Cairns CBD in the Freshwater Valley. A popular local retreat for Cairns residents, the cascades offer safe swimming in naturally filtered freshwater surrounded by subtropical vegetation. A short track follows the creek upstream through rainforest, passing multiple swimming holes of varying sizes and depth.

Getting to Crystal Cascades

From Cairns CBD, drive west on Redlynch Intake Road through the Freshwater Valley for approximately 15 km to the car park at the end of Crystal Cascades Road.

Tips for visiting Crystal Cascades

A popular spot for locals — visit on weekdays to avoid crowds. The pools remain cool even in summer. Carry insect repellent as sandflies can be a nuisance near the water. No crocodiles have been sighted here but always exercise caution in Queensland waterways.
