About Newman & the Pilbara

Newman is a purpose-built iron ore mining town in the heart of the Pilbara, surrounded by red earth, spinifex grassland, and vast open skies. It's a working town with genuine outback character, serving as a base for exploring the region's natural landscape and understanding Western Australia's mining heritage.

Walks & Trails

Several walking trails ring the town, each offering a chance to explore the local terrain. Fraser's Lane is the closest at 2km away. For longer exploration, try Python Parade, Main Street, Echidna Parade, Curlew Road, 4th Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 2nd Avenue, or 1st Avenue, all within 3km. These walks reveal the semi-arid landscape that defines the Pilbara.

Camping

Newman has several caravan parks suited to touring vehicles. Yurlu Caravan Park and Newman Spinifex Bush Camp are both 2km from town. For a more remote experience, Parnpajinya Ridge Camp is 4km away, and Opthalmia Dam offers a quieter option 17km out.

Golf

Fortescue Golf Club is just 1km from the visitor centre, providing a pleasant break from the road.

Pubs & Dining

Purple Pub | TAB is right at the town centre, while Red Sands Tavern is 2km away. Both offer cold drinks and local hospitality in true outback style.
